INTERCHANGE PROGRAM AT LICEO DE POÁS
POÁS-MINESSOTA

During the past three years,  Liceo de Poás a public school in our country has participated in an interchange program between The School of Environmental Studies in Minnesota. Basically, this is an investigation project in which the students of both countries have to look for environmental problems of their communities and try to look for a possible solution to the founded issues. Every year, students from Minnesota come to Costa Rica and then Costa Rican students go to Minnesota to make different investigations around their communities related to the climate changes and how they are affecting those regions. This program looks for students with a high spirit of leadership, hardworking, and love for the nature.

Through this program, students learn and put in practice their skills and spirit of innovation and problem-solving. Students work with the guide of their mentor teachers but teachers do not infer in the investigation and nor the work students will do. Since the first day of work and during the fifteen days, students go around the communities of the country they are and they investigate about the past and how the climate has been changed since five years ago. Also, they look for what issues are affecting the environment.

This Cultural-Study program is a great opportunity to our students in Costa Rica because they will have the opportunity to journey to another country, open their minds and also reinforce their English language skills. In addition, they will make connections that would be great opportunities for their future professional grow up.
