ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK

About three months, I have been watching a TV show named Orange is the new black. This TV show narrates the story of some women on prison. The main character Piper is sentenced 15 months in a penitentiary. Piper has been convicted of transporting a suitcase full of drug money for her then girlfriend Alex. When she started her sentence, she had to deal with the life style there and learned how to survive. On prison, she also is reunited with her ex-girlfriend Alex and they started to re-examine their relationship and how to deal with the guilt. The story also narrates with flashbacks the life and how some other prisoners got there. What I really like about this story is that they show about how some people get into prison and also all the miscarriage of justice those people live there. I think the producers also should have include important facts such as, how their families how to carry out with this people there. Also they should have included what are the consequences these people live when the finished their sentences and how hard is for them to find a job and come back with the society.

Be Part of the New Era

School life might be stressful and tired! If you are taking your studies seriously, you may be are taking some other important things apart. Students are spending a lot time out home, sitting in a chair the whole day, and during their free time they have a lot stuff to do sometimes leaving apart their healthy life. Even though, being a responsible student is important for school success, students have to figure out how they can combine their studies and responsibilities with their personal and health care. Not only students but also people from many other areas of work are experience a fast life style in which they cannot lose a lot time or invest this time in recreational activities. Food and sleeping habits are also affecting people’s lives.

If you are part of one of this ways of life you should do something to save yourself. You may think on how you can get to school walking the longest distance you may walk. Also you should bring to school fruits and healthy food to eat between lunch times. This is just to avoid eat excessive junk food or other type of food that is not good for your health. During the breaks you should not stay inside the classrooms. You might go outside, walk around the school property and then go back to classes. You should avoid food from restaurants or cafeterias. Bring your food from home, because is a way of guaranty that you know exactly what you are eating.

If you do not follow these advices and you continue having this life style, you will be in healthy travels soon. Now, you can see people taking care of their health by going to gym or practicing a sport. These are good news but you may be aware of what things you are doing well and you have to improve.

Dear Editor,

I am writing this letter to express my opinion about what has the government been doing to help elderly people in recent years. In my opinion, the government has been implementing some projects to help and protect not only elderly people but also handicapped during the last years, but these are not enough. With the implementation of the 7600 law, the government solved some problems that elderly people and handicapped face every day. But I think this is just an obligation for the commerce area to make changes in their buildings to guarantee the accesses for those people. However, there steel have some areas that need to be improved regarding this topic. There are many elderly people left behind in many hospitals around all the country. We also have some others that do not have some to take care of them and also we are increasing the number of elderly people living in nursing homes. In my opinion those laws are good for them, but also we have to create awareness in our society about the importance of taking care of those people not only as a value in our families but also though schools and advertisements to help it. I hope my opinion will be take into account and through this we will continue helping those people who deserve all our respect and care.

INTERCHANGE PROGRAM AT LICEO DE POÁS
POÁS-MINESSOTA

During the past three years,  Liceo de Poás a public school in our country has participated in an interchange program between The School of Environmental Studies in Minnesota. Basically, this is an investigation project in which the students of both countries have to look for environmental problems of their communities and try to look for a possible solution to the founded issues. Every year, students from Minnesota come to Costa Rica and then Costa Rican students go to Minnesota to make different investigations around their communities related to the climate changes and how they are affecting those regions. This program looks for students with a high spirit of leadership, hardworking, and love for the nature.

Through this program, students learn and put in practice their skills and spirit of innovation and problem-solving. Students work with the guide of their mentor teachers but teachers do not infer in the investigation and nor the work students will do. Since the first day of work and during the fifteen days, students go around the communities of the country they are and they investigate about the past and how the climate has been changed since five years ago. Also, they look for what issues are affecting the environment.

This Cultural-Study program is a great opportunity to our students in Costa Rica because they will have the opportunity to journey to another country, open their minds and also reinforce their English language skills. In addition, they will make connections that would be great opportunities for their future professional grow up.

Life in future

Life in future is going to be similar to life in the present. We have been seeing the future in the movies as something pretty different from the life we have now, but I think is not in that way. I think people will have to change the way of dressing but just because the climate changes. Physically people will be pretty similar to now. People will change the way of thinking and probably we will have a broad mind. We will have many medicine advances but some other new illness. All around the earth people will be using renewable energy instead of using oil derivates. There will be many organizations working on saving the earth more than being worried on the economic growth. Instead of countries, there will be different areas on earth and not countries. We will have different areas in which people should have different ways of thinking and living and not country boundaries. Depending of the way of living you like you will choose the area you want to life. I hope human beings will change the way of living and we will be better people.

A Memorable Experience

I was 6 years old. All my family, included my cousins and aunts, we used to go and picked up coffee during the harvest time. My cousins and I used to play and we had a lot fun there. One day, we were playing a game called “Tarzan”. We were jumping from one place to other using branches. It was my turn to jump, so I took one of the branches.  I was hanging in the branch trying to jump but the brunch broke down. I fell down into the ground and I broke my arm. I remember everybody running behind my uncle who took me in his arms out of the coffee plantation. When we arrived to the hospital the doctors said they needed to make a surgery. It was my first surgery but not the only time I will break one my arms. During my childhood, I broke four different times my arms.
